Dewey Hall presents Jazz Jams

Jazz lovers, jazz musicians, instrumentalists, and vocalists are welcome at this event! Inspired by the storied, genre defining, open jazz jams from the formative era of jazz music, we will hold a monthly open jazz jam to unite members of the region’s vibrant musical community, inspiring new connections across a diverse range of skill levels, often pairing  professional musicians with budding talent.

Jazz Jams were at the center of many of the innovations in jazz music. Musicians would meet after gigs ended to play into the night with others. These early jazz jams are at the center of the creation of Bebop music, offering young players like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie the priceless opportunity to play with jazz icons such as Ben Webster & Lester Young.

Jazz jams will be hosted and facilitated by local jazz musicians Luke Franco and feature a house band (trio or quartet).

How to participate:

Musicians: Bring your instruments or voice to join the "Open Jam". Rotate in on stage after the house band kicks off the night.

Jazz Lovers: Enjoy an evening of improvisational jazz with professional performers and up-and-coming local talent.

You are invited to bring in take out from our sponsor Roberto’s Pizza. Beer, Wine, and non-alcoholic beverages available for sale at the Hall. No outside beverages allowed!

Jazz Jams are sponsored by Big Elm Brewing, Elyse Harney Real Estate, Autobahn, Carlson Propane, Herrington’s, Haddad Subaru, and JWS Art.

Jazz Jams are supported in part by the Local Cultural Councils of Lee, Mount Washington, and New Marlborough.
