Sourdough Bread Contest Entry Deadline 2025

Dear Sourdough Bread enthusiast;

Preheat your ovens! Join us to celebrate sourdough and community by entering Dewey Memorial Hall’s Sourdough Bread Baking Contest. The culinary celebrity judges will be Richard Bourdon of Berkshire Mountain Bakery, Sarah Reynolds North of Found Bread, and Jean-François Bizalion of Bizalion's Fine Foods.

Breads will be judged by our celebrity judges based on flavor, texture/crumb, crust, scent, etc. Breads will receive numbers upon arrival in order to maintain anonymity of the bakers during the judging and tasting process. We are limiting the contest to 20 entries this year.

Bakers are invited to stay for the wine tasting, cheese, and bread tasting. There will also be live music! The baker’s entry fee is $15 and this includes admission for the baker to the event on March 14th. Regular admission for other attendees is $30 and for children 12 and under admission is free. Make sure your friends and family purchase a ticket if they would like to attend!

Requirements to enter:

  • Complete the registration form by Monday, March 10th at midnight. ***Note there are two pages, make sure to complete both!
  • Purchase your baker ticket. This is required even if you are not attending the event.
  • Bakers need to provide two 2-pound loaves (a 2-pound loaf contains approximately 4 cups of flour). One loaf is for judging and tasting and one will be raffled off.
  • Loaves should be baked with the traditional sourdough fermentation process (no commercial yeast).
  • Grain variations are welcome in the traditional category.
  • If you would like to add additional ingredients such as onion, fruits, nuts, seeds, or spices please enter the "Embellishment" category.
  • Allow ample time for baking and cooling. (2024 judge feedback was that many loaves were underbaked)
  • Your TWO 2-pound loaves must arrive at Dewey Hall by 2:30pm on Friday, March 14th. Earlier is better! We can accept entries as early as 12:00pm.
  • Make sure your friends and family purchase a ticket if they would like to attend!
